Hello! Long time no submit! I've been lazy and busy at the same time. But here's something I actually drew as a parting gift for the kindergarten I'm working at (only three days remain).
This is my illustration of a Finnish lullaby "Päivänsäde ja Menninkäinen" (the Sunray and the Troll), which is one of my favourite lullabies. For those who don't know the story in the song, I can give a brief summary:
The song is about "the last Sunray of the day" who is left behind when the sun is setting. She is just about to fly away when she sees a small troll heading her way. This troll is a creature of the night, and he can't come out until the day is over.
The Sunray and the Troll are watching each other, and the troll is enchanted by the sunray's beauty, even though her light is almost blinding to him. The troll asks the sunray to come to live with him, to which sunray replies that darkness would kill her and that she has to leave immediately.
The sunray flies away and the troll is left alone, wondering why some beings are the children of the light, and some love the night.
I just love this song. And I've drawn several pictures about it throughout my childhood (well, at least one before this that I remember). And here's the newest version of it.
Drawn with colour pencils on black cardboard (surprise, surprise). I promise I'll submit something drawn with some other technique one of these days!
